WOMEN IN INDUSTRIAL AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

WISE members at an event

WISE provides formal and informal camaraderie, mentoring, and knowledge acquisition opportunities for all levels and specialties within the industrial and systems engineering profession. Some of these opportunities are centered around issues uniquely experienced by women engineers. However, all ISE students are welcome to join as we will have other foci like finding job postings, resume building, etc.

The ISE umbrella encapsulates the specialties of human factors, ergonomics, operations research, management systems, and manufacturing systems. At the undergraduate level, industrial and systems engineers learn elements from each specialty and employ them all in the workforce. At the graduate level, these specialties diverge and have their own student groups. Many groups at the graduate level (see HFES, INFORMS, etc.) focus on specific specialty areas and not the full breadth of ISE. It is our belief that a mixed grad/undergrad group maintaining the connections between specialties further ensures well-rounded engineers and better mentorship for curious undergraduate students considering each specialty. The hope is also to build a group of WISE-alum with whom current students can connect with and seek mentorship.
